KALONA - William S. Britton, 74, of Kalona, died Sunday at University Hospital in Iowa City as a result of injuries sustained last Tuesday when his car and a pickup truck driven by Frank Pechman of Route 4 collided north of Lone Tree. Pechman was killed in the crash.
Funeral services will be Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. at Kalona United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Otto Steele officiating. Burial will be in Sharon Hill Cemetery, Kalona. Friends may call at the Peterseim Funeral Home.
Mr. Britton was born in Washington County, Jan. 30, 1897, son of Vernon D. and Lena Lohman Britton. He spent all his life on the farm where he was born.
He married Rose Pitlick Sept. 4, 1929, in Iowa City. A retired farmer, he served many years as secretary of the Snake Hollow School District. He also served on an Agricultural board of English River Township.
Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Allen (Edith) Stransky, two sons, Dale V. and Gerald D., all of the Kalona area; five grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Mary J. Caldwell and V. Margaret Britton, both of Des Moines.
He was preceded in death by his wife in 1956.
