BRIGHTON - Roy Edwards, 69, died today at 4:45 a.m. in University Hospitals in Iowa City. He has been in failing health the last 1 1/2 years.
The service will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at the Brighton Methodist Church with the Rev. Rob Houts officiating. Burial will be in the Hillcrest Cemetery in Brighton. The Gould Funeral Home of Brighton is in charge of arrangements. A memorial fund has been established.
Edwards was born Dec. 14, 1908 in Coppock, the son of Abraham and Emma Wiles Edwards.
He married Bessie McKune in Washington on Feb. 25, 1930. He farmed in the Brighton area until he retired and moved to Brighton in 1973. He was a longtime member of the Brighton Community Chamber of Commerce and was serving as director at the time of his death. He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Brighton.
He is survived by his wife; two sons, Norman and Dean of Brighton; two daughters, Joyce Jones of Brighton and Janice Statler of Swisher; 11 grandchildren; one half brother, Claude Carpenter of Keithsburg, Ill.; and three half sisters, Jessie Edwards of Washington, Lizzie Dold and Maude Newman, both of Mount Pleasant.
He was preceded in death by an infant daughter and one grandson.
