Edward Martin Polton, 66, of Trenton and formerly of Brighton, died Sunday, Dec. 29, 2013, at Veterans Hospital in Iowa City.
A funeral is at 10:30 a.m. Friday at First Church of God in Brighton, with the Rev. Ryan Meader officiating. Burial will be in Sandy Hook Cemetery near Brighton.
Visitation is 5:30-7 p.m. Thursday at Gould Funeral Home in Brighton.
Gifts for a general memorial may be left at the funeral home, church or mailed to the family at 1257 Ash Avenue, Wayland 52654.
Mr. Polton was born Sept. 21, 1947, in Washington, Iowa, the son of Mart M. and Marjorie A. Hesseltine Polton. He married Cheryl Sinn June 26, 1971, in Brighton and they later divorced.
He grew up in Rock Island, Ill., and gradated from Rock Island High School in 1965.
He was a U.S. Army veteran and served in Viet Nam.
He worked for the Rock Island Rail Road for a number of years and in various factories until he became a truck driver for many years.
He loved fishing, camping and his grandchildren.
Survivors include two daughters, Tracie Bittner of Trenton, and Krista Polton and spouse Ron Gerleman of Lockridge; one son, Todd Polton and spouse Tracy at Wayland; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; his mother, Marjorie Polton of Rock Island; three brothers, Gary Polton and Jim Polton of Trenton; and two sisters, Marta Hanson of Bettendorf and Nancy Flaherty of Moline.
He was preceded in death by his father.
