Tuel, G. W.

Melancholy Accident — a sad casualty occurred last Saturday at Brighton, in this county, which resulted in the death of Mr. G. W. Tuel, an old and respected citizen of that place.

The circumstances, as we have learned them, were these: A party had repaired to Skunk River, near Moore & Swedley’s mill, for the purpose of fishing with a seine. Mr. Tuel; and a young man named Addison McCullough, started across the river to carry the ropes, when, from becoming entangled, or exhausted, or from some other cause, they both sank and called for help, but before it could be rendered, they were both lifeless. Every means were tried to resuscitate them, and in the case of young McCullough successfully, but Mr. Tuel was dead. A large concourse attended his funeral on Sabbath. The fact that he was engaged to be married to a lady in the east and expected to start in a few days for the accomplishment of this object; rendered his death all the more distressing. As a singular coincident, it is said the lady to whom he was engaged had a former engagement several years ago, with a young man who was also drowned while in the west.
