Lucille McCall Sipe

Lucille McCall Sipe, 92, 301 N. Third St., died at 12:55 a.m. today, Feb. 26, 1993, at Jefferson County Hospital.

The service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Behner Funeral Home with the Rev. Richard Wallarab officiating. Burial will be in Crawfordsville Cemetery in the family lot at Crawfordsville. Open visitation begins Sunday at the funeral home, where memorials to Birmingham Public Library may be left.

Miss Sipe was born Oct. 7, 1900, in Crawfordsville, the daughter of Fred and Jennie McCall Sipe. She graduated from Crawfordsville High School in 1919, from the University of Iowa in 1924 with a bachelor of art degree, and attended the Iowa Success Business College in Ottumwa. The family moved to Fairfield in 1925. She devoted her life to a career of teaching extending over a period of 42 consecutive years, she taught in the Birmingham High School for 37 years and in Van Buren Community High School in Keosauqua for five years. She retired in June 1968. She was a 50-year member of Phi Mu national social sorority, a life member of Iowa State Education Association, a charter member of Jefferson County Retired Teachers Association, a member of Iowa Retired Teachers Association, and a member of First United Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include two nephews, Barrett L. Peters of Hinsdale, Ill., Danny Cherryholmes of Davenport; two grandnieces and a grandnephew. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Miriam Peters, Talma Cherryholmes and an infant niece and nephew.
