James T. 'Jim' Stewart

James T. "Jim" Stewart, 85, of Fairfield, formerly of Iowa City, died Thursday, Jan. 11, 1996 at Iowa City Care Center after a long illness.

The service was at 1 p.m. today at the George L. Gay Funeral Home in Iowa City, with burial in Elm Grove Cemetery at Washington, Iowa. Memorials have been established to Iowa city Hospice, Jefferson County Hospice and Jefferson County Public Health.

Stewart was born May 14, 1910, in Washington County, the son of Howard M. and Susie M. Morton Stewart. He grew up and attended schools in Washington County. He was a farmer and also worked for P and M Camper Sales and Per Mar Security, both in Iowa City. He retired in 1981. He married Edna F. Richardson in 1932. He later married Frances R. Bjork on Oct. 26, 1974, in Cedar Rapids. He was a member of the National Farmers Organization and served on its national board of directors for five years.

Surviving are his wife of Fairfield; three sons, Donald D. of Columbus Junction, James L. and Howard M., both of Madison, Mo.; a daughter, Frances A. Ruckels of Muscatine; 15 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; 12 great-stepgrandchildren; and two sisters, Jean Timmins and Helen McNeil, both of Washington.
