Thomas Edward Eicher, age 70, of Washington, Iowa died Wednesday, May 15, 2013 at the All-American Care Center in Washington.

Private family services will take place at Elm Grove Cemetery at a later date. Memorials have been established for the Rare Book Room of the Law Library at the University of Iowa. Online condolences may be sent for Tom’s family through the web at www.jonesfh.com

Tom was born May 8, 1943 in Wichita Falls, Texas the son of LaVerne and Marilynn Jane (Miller) Eicher. He graduated from Washington High School in 1961. He received his B.A. and Law Degree from the University of Iowa.

Tom had been a resident of Washington for most of his life. He practiced law for a few years. He was employed as the librarian for the College of Law at the University of Iowa until his retirement.

He was an avid amateur HAM radio operator. He was a book collector, and he enjoyed researching, especially family history.

Tom is survived by his sister Sarah Purcell and husband James of El Paso, Texas; niece Kathryn
Ann Greiner of St. Paul, Minnesota; niece Elizabeth Jane Greiner and husband Andy Kitzmann of Saratoga Springs, New York; niece Marilynn Dorothy Purcell of Minneapolis, Minnesota; great-nephew Jacob Kitzmann and great-niece Anneliese Kitzmann, both of Saratoga Springs, New York; and lifelong friends Delmar Yoder and Linda Tripp, both of Washington, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and nephew Jeffery LaVerne Greiner.
