Gertrude F. Upton dies

Gertrude F. Upton, 103, of Washington, died Tuesday, June 9, 1987, at at Brownlee Health Center of the United Presbyterian Home. She had been in failing health for some time.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Stronghurst Cemetery, Stronghurst, Ill. A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the United Presbyterian Church in Stronghurst with the Rev. Earnest Peterson officiating. Jones Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Gertrude Fort was born May 15, 1884, at Stronghurst to Edward and Anne Marshall Fort. She attended Stronghurst High School and Monmouth College.

In 1907 she married Robert Wesley Upton.

She worked at Knox College in Galesburg, Ill., in the housekeeping department from 1948-1958 and was a homemaker. She was a member of the United Presbyterian Church.

She is survived by two sons, Vincent of Plainfield, N.J. and Robert Wallace Upton, Sun City, Ariz.; two daughters, Katherine Everetts, DeKalb, Ill., and Margaret Grigsby, Wilmington, Del.; a sister, Evelyn Sillars of Sun City, 11 grandchildren and a number of great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, one son and one sister.
