Gladys I. Rains

WASHINGTON - Gladys I. Rains, 96, of the M.L. McCreedy Home in Washington, Iowa, died Wednesday, April 13, 1994, at Washington County Hospital after a brief illness.

The service will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Jones Funeral Home with the Rev. Larry Brown officiating. Burial will be in Elm Grove Cemetery at Washington. Visitation is open at the funeral home with the family present from 7 to 8 tonight. A memorial has been established to the M.L. McCreedy Home Activity Fund.

Mrs. Rains was born Nov. 17, 1897, in Libertyville, the daughter of Peter and Lulla Berrier James. On June 15, 1915, in Des Moines, she married Raymond Rains, who preceded her in death. They spent the first part of their married life farming near Rubio, Richland and West Chester, moving to Washington in 1939. She worked at the American Pearl Button Co. in Washington until her retirement.

Surviving are a daughter, Aretus Krupp of Center Line, Mich.; a son, Edward W. Rains of Fort Atkinson, Wis.; 17 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchldren. Three daughters, Louetta Brinning, Bernice Bigler, Lois Lewis, a son, Raymond J., three grandchildren and a sister preceded her in death.
