Lyle Wilson, 73.

Lyle C. Wilson, 73, of rural Washington died today, June 24, 1983, at Washington Care Center. Although he had been ill for the past 5 1/2 years, his death was unexpected.

Funeral services are pending at Jones Funeral Home, Washington. The Rev. Merlin Ackerson will officiate with burial at Elm Grove Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established to the University of Iowa Cancer Research Foundation.

Mr. Wilson was born July 26, 1908, in Cherokee County, the son of A. Martin and Ruth Swisher Wilson. He was reared, educated, and married to Vernice Sadie Schnell on Jan. 1, 1936, in Cherokee County. The Wilson (sic) moved to Washington County in 1935 and have lived on the same farm for 48 years.

A farmer, Mr. Wilson was very active in county government, served on the Walnut School Board and was the Brighton Township clerk for more than 20 years. He also served on the first Triple A committee, was a member of the Farm Bureau, a charter member of the Iowa Cattlemen's Association and a member of the Washington County Pork Producers Association.

Mr. Wilson was a member of the United Methodist Church, Washington.

Survivors include his wife, Sadie Wilson of Washington; one son, Dean Wilson of rural Washington; four daughters, Mrs Cole (Beverly) Walker of Fayetteville, Ark., Mrs. Stan (Nancy) Nollen of England, Carol Wilson of Denver, Colo., and Mrs. Ted (Donna) Beecroft of Minneapolis, Minn.; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and three brothers Swisher Wilson of Moline, Ill., Mike Wilson of Norris, Tenn., and Birl Wilson of Buffalo, N.Y.
