Leonard E. Pohren, 83, of Wayland, formerly of Washington, died Sunday, May 4, 2008 at the Parkview Home in Wayland after failing health.
Services were held Wednesday, May 7, 2008 at the Jones-Funeral Home in Washington with Pastor Darryl Carr officiating. Interment with military honors conducted by Washington American Legion Post 29 took place at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington.
Mr. Pohren was born November 10, 1924 in Jefferson County, Iowa the son of Christian and Lydia (Kern) Pohren. He attended school at Mohawk #9 and also attended school in Brighton. On September 30, 1943 he was united in marriage to Arlene M. Weinard in Washington. He owned and operated Pohren Trucking for many years. He served in the United States Navy during World War II where he was in the Pacific Theater.
He is survived a daughter Karen and husband Mark Escher of Kalona; three sons, Dean and wife Shari Pohren of Osage; Allen Pohren of Red Oak; Jeffrey Pohren of Omaha; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one sister, Viola Norton of Washington.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Arlene in 1991, six brothers and sisters, Dorothy Crile, Eunice Mann, Clifford Pohren, Harold Pohren, Everette Pohren, and Norma Hesseltine.
