C. W. Sommers Taken in Death Friday Evening

The community was shocked and grieved when word was received last Friday evening of the sudden death of Clifford W. Sommers. He appeared to be in his usual health until Friday morning at which time he complained of pain in the abdominal regions, medical aid was summoned and he was taken to the Mercy hospital in Iowa City where he died early in the evening. Death being caused by a ruptured blood vessel, a rare disorder for which there is no known surgical relief.

Cliff, as he was favorably known, will be greatly missed by neighbors and friends. A smile for all, he was always ready to help wherever needed.

Clifford William, the son of Godfrey and Lydia Sommers, was born on a farm south of Kalona on December 26, 1895 and died February 25, 1949 at the age of 58 years 3 months and 29 days.

United in marriage with Mildred Beck on June 10th, 1933, he lived his entire life in Kalona and on a nearby farm.

He was a member of the Kalona Methodist church, Masonic Lodge, Community Club, and for several years was chairman of the English River Township Conservation group.

Surviving are his wife, Mildred, his mother and father, Mrs. and Mrs. Godfrey Sommers; two brothers, Roy and Everett and one nephew, Jim H. Sommers of Des Moines.

Funeral services were held at the Methodist church Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock with Rev. M. O. McKenzie in charge. Pall bears were A. W. Duwa, Harry Stumpf, Lyle Fry, V. C. Hochstetler, Edmund Eglin, and I. E. Grady. Interment was made in the Sharon Hill Cemetery with Peterson and Sons service in charge of arrangements.
