Embree, Sadie A. (Malson) 1901-2003

Sadie A. Embree, 102, of Sigourney, formerly of Delta, died Mon., Sept. 22, 2003, at the Sigourney Care Center following a brief illness.

She was born Feb. 16, 1901, in Illinois, the daughter of John and Sarah (Leddbetter) Malson. She was raised on the family farm until moving to Iowa in 1912. She finished her education in Washington.

She married Lyall Moore. The couple lived and raised their family in West Chester and farmed in Illinois and Iowa.

Following her divorce from Lyall she married William Embree in 1946. The couple moved to the Ollie area in 1950, where they farmed. On Jan. 1, 1960, he died.

She raised livestock until moving to Delta in November of 1965. She was able to live in her home until the age of 99 when she entered the Sigourney Care Center. She loved to be outside and she gardened and cared for her yard until shortly before entering the care center.

She is survived by one daughter, Lois Irene Johnson of Ash Grove, Mo.; two daughters-in-law, Verena Moore of Dade City, Fla. and Erma Moore of Oskaloosa; 10 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two sons, Dean and Wilbur Moore; an infant son, David Moore; two daughters, Martha Jean and Helen Louise Moore; a great grandson, Jesse Shafranek; three brothers and five sisters.

Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Fri., Sept. 26, at the Keota Cemetery with the Rev. Frances Baumert officiating. Burial will be in the Keota Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Fri., Sept. 26, at the Reynolds-Powell Funeral Chapel in Sigourney. Friends and family may meet at Reynolds-Powell Funeral Chapel in Sigourney at 12:30 p.m. to form a procession to the cemetery.

A general memorial fund has been established.

Reynolds-Powell Funeral Chapel and Cremation Service in Sigourney is handling the arrangements.
