Charles “Bill” JEFFRIES, age 88, of Washington, Iowa died Saturday January 13, 2007 at the Washington County Hospital following a short illness.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 am Wednesday, January 17th at the Jones Eden Funeral Home with Rev. Marlene Janssen and Rev. Robin Houts officiating. Visitation will be held at the Jones Eden Funeral Home from 9:00 am until 7:00 pm Tuesday. Interment with military honors conducted by Washington American Legion Post #29 will be held at Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington. Memorials have been established for the West Chester United Methodist Church or the United Presbyterian Home.

Bill was born April 29, 1918 in Maryville, Tennessee the son of Charles and Merle (PRYOR) JEFFRIES. He attended school in Tennessee and later attended Junior College in Burlington, Iowa after moving to Iowa in 1936. Bill was a veteran of World War II having served in the Army for four years. On January 5, 1946 Bill was united in marriage to Freida HERTIG.

Bill farmed all of his life and enjoyed working with wood. He spent countless hours working with his scroll saw and clock became his specialty. He loved people and they dearly loved him.

He is survived by his wife Freida JEFFRIES of Washington, Iowa; brother Leland “Pete” JEFFRIES and wife Mary of Washington, Iowa; brother Dean JEFFRIES and wife Lila of Washington, Iowa; sister Ruth BROWN of Cedar Rapids; as well as a number of nieces and nephews and many dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother John JEFFRIES and one sister Betty Jo GINN.
