Alan (Joe) Hoover, 75, of New Virginia died peacefully on Friday, July 13, after a long, courageous battle with cancer.

Joe was born November 6, 1936, at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa, to parents Don and Winifred Hoover of Norwalk. After graduating from Springhill High School, Joe was employed by Armstrong Tire & Rubber for twenty-nine years. Joe's true passion was his dairy farm and his family. His never-ending humor will be missed by his loving wife of fifty-two years, Joanne (Jorgensen) Hoover of New Virginia and daughters, Theresa (Ed) Gifford of Mitchellville and Joleen (Randy) Bunch of West Des Moines. Joe is also survived by his siblings, Jerry (Theresa) Hoover, Rosemary Hoover, Diane Hoover, five grandchildren, brother in law, John (Sue) Jorgensen and many nieces, nephews and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, Pat Hoover.

The family would like to acknowledge the staff of Mercy Hospital and Kavanagh House in Des Moines for their compassion and care during Joe's final weeks. Special thanks as well to the neighbors and community of New Virginia for their support during Joe's final months. The hours with the "boys" at Spike's Barber Shop were highlights of his final years.

Family will greet friends at visitation on Monday, July 16 from 6 to 8 p.m,. at Kale Funeral Home in Osceola. Services will be held Tuesday, July 17 at 10 a.m. at the funeral home with a luncheon following. Burial will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday afternoon at Webb Cemetery, Norwalk, Iowa.
