Ira M. Sears, was born at Lineville, Iowa, January 27, 1872, and passed away after a brief illness at the Broadlawns General Hospital in Des Moines, April 1, 1950, at the age of 78 years, 2 months and 5 days. He was united in marriage to Maude Petty, November 12, 1895, at Lineville, Iowa. They have made their home at Lineville, until the last 26 years, which they have spent near Carlisle and Des Moines. Mr. Sears was active in the grocery business and also in the Hardware business for some years, and took up the occupation as a farmer for some time. He was a member of the Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife, two sons, Willie of St. Charles, and Clyde of Des Moines, also three daughters, Mrs. Kirk Vaughn and Wilbert Anderson of Carlisle, and Mrs. Lester Snow of Des Moines, ten grandchildren, and four great grandchildren, one brother, Alex Sears of Lineville, and a sister, Mrs. Carl Anderson of Boring, Oregon, and a host of other relatives survive him.
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon, April 4, 1950 at the Methodist Church at Carlisle, Iowa, and interment was made in the Avon Cemetery. Rev. Charles E. Kingsfield of Des Moines, was in charge of the services. Source – Carlisle Citizen, Friday, April 14, 1950, p.8
