James Gordon McDaniels
(October 17, 1867 – April 3, 1926)

New Virginian, New Virginia, Iowa, Thurs., April 22, 1926, p.1
James G. McDaniels
James Gordon, son of Garret and Sarah McDaniel, was born October 17, 1867, near Grafton, West Virginia; and died at his home near Indianola, April 3, 1926, aged 59 years, six months and sixteen days. At the age of six months he, with his parents, came to White Oak Township, Warren County, Iowa. This with the exception of a few months spent at Fort Morgan, Colorado, has been his home ever since. June 4, 1891, he was united in marriage with Minnie Harsh. To this union was born one son, Gordon, and two daughters. An infant daughter died May 22, 1899, and Ada died October 7, 1899.
He leaves to mourn their loss, his invalid wife and son, Gordon, also many friends and neighbors. He was a loving husband, a kind father and a true friend, especially in case of sickness and death. In the 45 years of our acquaintance as neighbors, we never heard him say a harmful word of anyone. He was a member of Pleasant Hill M. E. church, also of the Odd Fellows lodge. The funeral was held at the home Monday at 11 o’clock, conducted by his pastor, Rev. Stanley Eskew, and the body was laid to rest in the Hewitt Cemetery, where his parents and his two daughters are buried. The Odd Fellows had charge of the services at the cemetery.
