The death of W. P. Judkins, Esq., which was not unexpected, occurred at half-past six o’clock, Tuesday evening, at the funeral services take place at his residence at ten o’clock this afternoon. Mr. Judkins was one of the oldest citizens of our town, and was much respected. He was 75 years old at the time of his death. William P. Judkins was born near Statesville, Iredell County, North Carolina on the 2nd day of February 1808. With his parents they moved to Covington, Ky., and from Kentucky they moved to Brown County, Ohio. He was married on the 17th day of September, 1829 to Mary Rush. On the 29th day of November, 1829 he with his wife joined the M. E. church and has ever since been a member. From Ohio he moved to Indiana and from there to Iowa. He came to Indianola, Iowa, June 12th, 1852. Since coming to Iowa he has lived 1 year in Winterset, 5 years in Knoxville and about 1 year in Des Moines, the remainder of the time in Indianola. He was a kind father and a loving husband. He died Oct. 3rd, 1882, at 6:30 p.m. Mr. Judkins was well known in Indianola and his friends have the sympathy of all who know how much they have lost. “So the multitude goes like the flower or the weed, that withers away to let others succeed. But with man it is not death but sleep.”
