Moses Alfrey
(March 25, 1835 – April 10, 1892)

Moses Alfrey was born in Fleming Co., Kentucky, March 25, 1835, and moved to Coles Co., Ills., in ’52, married to Millie Yarnall Aug. 17, 1854. He came to Iowa in ’55 and has since been a resident of Warren Co. He died April 10, 1892, aged 57 years and 16 days. He was a true believer in Christianity and died a member of the Christian Church. He suffered intensely for three weeks but was quite patient throughout his sickness and was conscious that he was nearing the river of death. He called his family and friends around him and told them that he was crossing the river Jordan and wished them to meet him in Heaven. He was quite anxious for the time to come when he should bid farewell to friends on this earthly shore, and join the loved ones that had gone before. “Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth; yea saith the spirit that they may rest from their labors, and their works do follow them.” A Friend [source – Indianola Herald, Indianola, Iowa, Thurs., April 14, 1892, p.2]
