Betty Lavon Rinehart
(May 21, 1928 - May 25, 2022)

Betty Lavon (Rankin) Rinehart, 94, passed away peacefully May 25, 2022 at The Village in Indianola, Iowa.
Betty was born May 21, 1928 in Marion County, Iowa to Stanley and Ethel (Whitlatch) Rankin. She attended Tracy High School and graduated as the secretary and treasurer of her high school class. Betty went on to beauty school shortly after high school in Ottumwa, Iowa. Betty met Nelson Rinehart after World War II and they were married in 1948. Out of this union, six children were born. Betty was employed as a bank teller for many years in Des Moines and also worked in retail in her retirement years in Indianola. Betty was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and adored the character, Betty Boop. She also enjoyed reading all her life. She was a member of local book clubs and loved to attend all movies at the Paramount Theaters in Indianola for many years, even serving as the local movie critic. Betty was a faithful member of the Methodist Church in Indianola.
Betty is survived by her six children: Jon Rinehart (Mary Cass) of Tulsa, OK; Mike Rinehart (Patti) of Plano, TX; Belinda Pfaff (Charlie) of Surprise, AZ, Cindy Hosburgh (Peter) of Grand Junction, CO; Robyn Copeland (Dan Howell) of Pleasant Hill, IA; and Nealia Herberger (Dean) of Indianola, IA. Betty is also survived by 11 grandchildren: Greg, Kate, Alyssa, Stacey, Matt, Coley, Casey, Justine, Kristin, Jack and Jerry. She also has 15 great grandchildren: Violet, Daisy, Poppy (Jon Rinehart), Trevor and Garrett (Belinda); Asher, Ollie and Miles (Cindy); Sadie (Robyn); Emily, Blake, Tate, Tinley, Elsa and Wyatt (Nealia.) Betty has many nieces and nephews. Betty has one sister, Carolyn Poffenbarger (Don) Indianola, IA. She was preceded in death by her parents, Stanley and Ethel Rankin, her husband Nelson Rinehart, one infant child, brothers and sisters, Bob, Larry, Leland, and Marilyn, and a grandson, Lucas.
Private family services will be held at a later date. Condolences may be expressed at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola, IA. Contributions can be made to the family for a future dedication.
