Avian Eleanor Todd
(December 20, 1927 - October 3, 2022)

Graveside services for Avian Todd, 94, of Indianola, who passed away Monday, October 3, 2022, at ProMedica in West Des Moines, will be held 10:30 a.m., Saturday, October 8, in the Indianola IOOF Cemetery. Visitation will follow graveside services from 12 to 2 p.m. at the Indianola Masonic Lodge, 1606 W 2nd Ave, Indianola.
Avian was born on December 20, 1927 to Erik and Sadie Lindskoog of Parkridge, IL. On February 2, 1945 she married George Todd, the love of her life, who preceded her in death after 58 years of marriage. At 32 years of age, she came to realize that she was a sinner and needed to be saved. She accepted the Lord Jesus as her Savior as did her husband at about the same time. She met regularly with believers gathered to the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ until she was no longer able due to physical limitations. She was a homemaker and a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great, great grandmother and longed that each of her family would come to Christ. She talked with each about the Lord as she had opportunity and regularly prayed for them. Her Bible was her constant companion. She read it daily and enjoyed the presence of the Lord, leaning on His promises.
Beside her love for her family, she was interested in others and was always ready to talk about her Savior. She sent gospel tracts to every address in the Indianola phonebook. It took her thirty years. After completing the phonebook, she started over. One of her favorite tracts to give out was “How to Become a Christian.” She enjoyed writing stories, poems and kept a meticulous diary. She was neat and orderly and liked to keep things clean. She was very frugal. She will be remembered for her positive, upbeat attitude, in spite of family tragedy and her health issues. One of her favorite verses was, “I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me.” Phil. 4:13. She is dearly missed!
Avian is survived by her children, Lynn (Wally) Dear, Jon (Cindy) Todd, Stephen (Jennifer Rine-Todd) Todd; 16 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; sister, Carol Beckland; and many other nieces, nephews and other family. She is preceded in death by her husband, George; children, Ellen Kay, Joel, Chris (Elizabeth), Kari; two great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in her name to the Bible Truth Publishers, 59 Industrial Road, Addison, IL 60101. [This memorial is provided by Overton Funeral Home, 501 West Ashland Ave., Indianola, Iowa, http://www.overtonfuneral.com/]
