Charles "Chuck" Seymour
(January 24, 1934 - February 27, 2023)

Blessed with eternal life because he believed in Jesus Christ, services for Charles “Chuck” Seymour, 89, of Indianola, who passed away Monday, February 27, 2023 at home, will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, March 4, 2023 at Indianola Grace Evangelical Free Church. Private burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery, Churchville. Visitation will be held 4 to 8 p.m., Friday, March 3, 2023 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola.
Chuck was born on January 24, 1934, to Henry and Katherine (Shafar) Seymour near Cumming, Iowa. He lived most of his life in and around Prole and Martensdale, Iowa. He attended grade school and high school at Martensdale, graduating in 1951. He started working at Allied Mutual Insurance Company, taking a break to fulfill his tour of duty in the United States Army from 1954 to 1956. In 1957, he was united in marriage to Wilma McConnell. To this union was born five children, Brenda, Greg, Brad, Roger and Brian. Our family was raised on a farm west of Martensdale. In 1996, Chuck retired from Allied and he and Wilma bought a camper to spend the winter months in many southern states. Gulf Shores, Alabama, was "our favorite spot." The love of camping with friends and the thought of buying another camper was on his mind until the day he passed away. Chuck was a Martensdale volunteer firefighter for many years. He was the last of a group of men who met at the O’Mara body shop in Martensdale for coffee every morning to solve the problems of the world.
Anyone who knew Chuck knew how important his children were to him and the kids would say he taught them about a strong work ethic at an early age. His favorite days were family gatherings for birthdays with homemade ice cream. Greg made sure his dad enjoyed a dish on his last birthday.
Chuck leaves behind his wife Wilma; children, Brenda Dooley; Greg (Chris); Brad (Lori Jordan); Roger (Gina) and daughter in law, Chris Knudsen; sister, Doris Jaworski; grandchildren Kelli (David) Wise; Bryan Dooley; Mitch (Darby) Seymour); Jay Seymour; Ali (fiancé, Ben McMenamin) Seymour; JT (Crystal) Jordan; Kelsey (Morgan Pool-Kean) Jordan, Karley (Dane) Ware; Michael (Jennifer) Endres; Shannon (Jon) Starkweather; Sean (fiancé, Amber Shadle) Seymour; and Joe (Lexi Russell) Seymour; 10 grandchildren; sister-in-law, Helen Phillips; and a host of family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Brian; sisters, Karen Stanley and Debbie Quinn; brother-in-law, Walt Jaworski; niece, Janis Jaworski McKinny; father- and mother-in-law, Fay and Alice McConnell; brother- and sister- in-law, Bob and Dorothy Bingham; brothers-in-law, Bob Phillips and Keith McConnell; his good buddy and cousin, Lewis Lane; and many other family members.
Memorials may be given in his name to Martensdale Fire Association, Indianola Fire Department or Indianola Grace Evangelical Free Church. [This memorial is provided by Overton Funeral Home, 501 West Ashland Ave., Indianola, Iowa, http://www.overtonfuneral.com/]
