Sarah Jane (Cart) Polson
(September 22, 1840 - February 25, 1917)

Sarah Jane Cart was born in Elkhart county, Indiana, Sept. 22, 1840. She was the oldest of four children who grew to manhood and womanhood, one sister having preceded her to the better world. She was married April 26, 1866, to Asa T. Polson. To this union was born one child. a daughter. It was the unhappy lot of Mrs. Polson to lay away the daughter and husband and to face the world alone. However, it was not to give in, in the battle of life, when she turned from these open graves. She closed her home and came to the parental home where her mother was in failing health and nursed her through her last sickness. Then she made a home for her father and watched tenderly over him until he pased away at the age of 100 years and 54 days. But even then her life work was not done and from that day until her death she has made a home for her brother, Hamilton. She lived for him and it was her prayer that she might be spared until he was taken. Thus, through all her life she has been a ministering angel and all of it has been done cheerfully and well. Her home was always open to any and all who came to her and she was always ready with a welcome for them.

She was a charter member of the Presbyterian church at Hartford and during all these years lived a consistent christian life. She was not afraid to go, for she went down into the valley without fear, though she knew that the end was near. She loved the fourteenth chapter of John, which shows something of the faith she had in her heavenly Father.

She leaves to mourn her death two brothers, Samuel M. Cart of Des Moines, and Hamilton, who has made his home with her, besides several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held at the home Monday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Roy N. Spooner, pastor of the M. E. church. Interment took place in the Pleasantville cemetery.
