Floyd Campbell, the oldest surviving son of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob W Campbell, was born in Jefferson township, near Wick, Iowa, December 2, 1901 and died January 29, 1919, aged seventeen years, one month and twenty-seven days.
When but seven years old he joined the Methodist church and was regular in attendance at church and Sabbath school and a faithful and true helper at home and will be greatly missed and especially by his father with whom he was in the closest companionship all his life.
The scourge of the flu seemed to be more severe in his home than any other in the neighborhood. Only ten days before his step-brother, Martin Longabaugh had died and from that day he grew rapidly worse and for the last few days was unconscious the most of the time and when his father came to his bedside from his own bed, he seemed to recognize him but could not speak and soon after he passed over to be with his mother, two brothers and one sister who were waiting for him on the other shore, leaving to survive him his father, step-mother, one brother and two sisters.
Because the entire family were so very sick no services were held at the home. The casket covered with beautiful donors was followed to the grave by sorrowing and sympathetic neighbors and friends. A hymn was sung and Rev. S. W. Lee offered prayer. It is planned to have memorial services in the future for both Martin and Floyd.
Many prayers and much sympathy were given for the family while they were in such deep sorrow and all are glad that the fear of more deaths has passed and that all the family now seem to be on the way to complete recovery.
