Fern, the second daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John S. Wallace, was born in Wick, Iowa, on Nov. 17, 1906, and departed this life in Broadlawns sanitarium, Des Moines, March 18, 1931, at 7:30 p.m. age 24 years, 4 months, and one day. She was united in marriage to Herbert Ellingworth Nov. 1, 1929. To this union one little daughter, Deloris, was born. She spent most of her girlhood days in Wick. She was of a bright, sunny disposition and had many friends among both old and young people. She embraced Christianity while young and united with the Methodist church at Wick under the pastorate of the Rev. Mike Harned, in 1931. She attended the district school at Smedley and spent three years in the consolidated high school at Martensdale. She was a brilliant pupil and loved literature. The family moved to Florida and she entered the Miami school where she finished her school work. On the last morning of her life here, when her mother entered her room, she was repeating the 23rd Psalm. Her mother stood at attention at her bedside until she closed her devotions. Then looking up at her mother she said, “I want you and dad and Bert and all my brothers and sisters to meet me in heaven. Also, I want my body taken back to our old home at Wick, that the last rites may be among my friends and I want my body placed in the family lot in the Wick Cemetery.” She leaves to mourn her departure, her husband and their little daughter, Deloris, her father, John S. Wallace, her mother, Etta Wallace, two sisters and three brothers, Mrs. Russell Schoen, of Des Moines, John Jr. of U.S. Navy, Paul, Arthur and Cloise at home. The funeral conducted by Paul M. Hann was held Sunday, March 22, at Wick and interment was made in the Wick Cemetery.
