Leonard Clarence Miller
(June 28, 1935- May 6, 2020)

On May 6, 2020, Leonard “Len” C. Miller passed peacefully in his home surrounded by family. Len was born and raised on his family’s farm in Lacona, IA on June 28, 1935. Len was a devoted and loyal family man. Although his roots were in Iowa, as a soldier, a sales executive, and a retiree, he traveled the world. It may safely be said that as a conversationalist, Len was unique, engaging and always entertaining—ready with a pun or embellished explanations that likely contributed to the popularity of Google.
Len will be remembered for his love of technology, nature, birdwatching, and music. His family will affectionately remember his joy in playing the organ on Sunday afternoons and evenings. After traveling the world, Len returned to Indianola, IA in 1996 continuing his love of technology to serve his community as the “Computer” guy with the best rates in town and a long client list.
He joined the United States Army in 1953 serving in the Korean War as Specialist 3rd Class, Technician. He was honorably discharged in September 1955. He took pride in serving his country, proudly wearing his Korean War Veteran cap. When thanked for his service, he always responded, “Thank you for allowing me to serve” and asking if they had served—resulting in a new friend. After serving, Len returned to Iowa where he met and married Norma “Diane” McGinnis, his late wife of 55 years and mother of his five children. Len launched a successful 45-year career in technology sales leading to six relocations across the country.
He began his second career in retirement as a lab courier for Iowa Methodist Pathology lab. His planned two-year employment lasted for 18 years, recruiting many friends as fellow drivers. He loved this job because it allowed him to enjoy two passions: driving and talking. Lucky in love, Len married his second wife, Mary Geiger in 2014. Together, Mary and Len found joy, shared faith, a passion for music, and most importantly, endless laughter.
Len is survived by his second wife, Mary Geiger; his children, Karla Miller, Randy (Mara) Miller, Tim (Mary Jo) Miller, Cheryl Elliott and Gloria (Chad) Schettler; stepchildren, Dave (Stacey) Geiger and Robb (Kris) Geiger; his six grandchildren, Audrey, Kelly, Laura, Josie, Carly and Calvin; and five step-grandchildren, Kenzie, Chase, Quinn, Camryn and Zoe Geiger; his siblings, Lucille Pitt, Madonna Lyberg and Arnold Miller; brother-in-law, Jim (Emajean) Westphal; sister-in-law, Sarah (Larry) Conrad; and many nieces and nephews. Len is preceded in death by first wife Norma “Diane” Miller, his parents Pete and Priscilla Miller, his siblings Ivola Dodds, Raymond Miller, Marvin Miller, Ruth Konrad and Rosella Buderus.
