Norma Jean was born July 9, 1933 in Lost Nation, IA to Heinrich and Elfrieda (Will) Feuss. She was the oldest of 11 children and grew up on a farm outside of Lost Nation, where she helped with the family farm. She loved being right beside her father, whether in the barn milking cows or working with the horses starting when she was 5 years old. Through high school, she worked at a local grocery store, where she met the love of her life, Donald Clatt, and they were married on June 29, 1952. To this union six children were born. The family lived in the Lost Nation area for a few years and then moved to Indianola.
Norma kept busy with her children and doing daycare in her early years of marriage. She was a Charter Member of and taught Sunday school at Redeemer Lutheran Church for many years. Norma worked as a waitress, worked at JC Penney and the Indianola School District, where she could be seen mowing the school yards and driving the school bus. She also cleaned house for several people. Norma moved to an acreage southeast of Indianola, where she raised hogs, calves and milked cows for many years. Norma loved being outside, on her lawn mower, and going to the timber and cutting wood. Visiting the casino was always a fun trip for her. She never liked to sit still or be in the house. She enjoyed boating and camping with her family, friends and their families.
Survivors include her 6 children, Butch (Barb) Clatt, Cindy Clatt, Kathy (Bob) Disney, Debby (Tony) Wickett, Vicky Godwin and Travis (Maggie) Clatt; 11 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; loving husband, Donald; brother, Gary Feuss; sister, Linda Ward; daughter-in-law, Lola Clatt; and son-in-law, Alan Overton.
Public visitation will be held 3 to 8 p.m., Thursday, September 24, 2020, at Overton Funeral Home, with family present from 4 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Redeemer Lutheran Church.
