You may also join the family and friends on our Website Live Stream located on her obituary page of our website.
Hazel Fleda Hadley was born August 19, 1927 in Watseka, Illinois. She was the third child of Paul and Fleda Hadley. Being a child of a minister, the family moved frequently so she lived in many Midwest states during her growing up years. She did spend her high school years in Argonia, Kansas where she graduated in 1945. The family soon moved to New Providence, Iowa. Hazel would start college at William Penn in Oskaloosa, Iowa in the fall where she would study for two years.
While in New Providence she met Edwin Hadley. In September 1947 they would marry. For the first six years of their married life they farmed the family farm in New Providence. While they were on the farm daughters Shelia and Becky were born as well as an infant son Roddy who lived only a short time. They struggled to make farm life work and in 1954 moved to Indianola, Iowa. The next few years were also very difficult. Son Daniel was born but lived only a short time. Not long after, Edwin became ill and was unable to work. By that time Hazel was working for Farm Bureau Insurance Company where she would work for 30 plus years. In 1993 she retired from Farm Bureau and she and Edwin spent the next ten years traveling with MMAP, Mobile Missionary Assistance Program. They traveled all over the US volunteering on construction projects, remodeling of church camps and churches. Teaching and living God’s Word along the way. They shared 71 years together. Always best friends, working together, raising a family, serving the Lord.
Hazel’s whole life was lived in the background doing whatever she could to serve. Always active in the church, especially with the children and music. At a young age watching her father and grandma she learned to play the piano. Before she was a teenager, she was playing piano for church and continued playing until just before Mother’s Day this year. Even entertaining for the residents of the Village. She was blessed to grow up in a very Christian faith-filled home and her life was a reflection of that faith and love.
Family was very important to her. She loved daughter Shelia (Jerry Keisel) and grandson Brett (Heidi) and children London, Leighton and Edyn, grandson Jeffery; her daughter Becky (Gary Septer) and granddaughter Danielle (Lee Gudith) and children Jacob and Brooklyn and her granddaughter Melissa (Luke Bishop) and daughers Chloe and Esti; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband; Edwin, and her two sons, Roddy and Daniel; her parents, Paul and Fleda Hadley; sister, Edna Smith; brother, Merlin Hadley; grandson, Todd Keisel.
Memorials may be made to Good Shepherd Fund at The Village or Indianola Friends Church. This memorial is provided by Overton Funeral Home, 501 West Ashland Ave., Indianola, Iowa, http://www.overtonfuneral.com/
