Obituary – Alexander Buchanan
Alexander Buchanan, son of John and Lida Buchanan was born in Peoria County, Illinois, October 19, 1838. Died March 6th, 1913. He grew to manhood in the county in which he was born. Was married to Caroline Walsh November 22, 1860, they traveled life’s pathway together until about three years ago when she was called to her eternal home. He came to Warren County, Iowa in the spring of 1877 where he has lived until the time of his death. He is survived by six children, two sons and four daughters and nine grandchildren, all of whom were present except one daughter, Mary, of Butte, Montana, who could not be present.
He was a kind father, a loving husband and a good neighbor. Besides rearing his own family, three nieces and two nephews, who were left fatherless and motherless made their home with him. Funeral services were held at the home Saturday morning, March 8th, at 10 a.m., conducted by Rev. C. W. Brewer. The remains were laid to rest in the home cemetery at Carlisle.
