Joseph I. Vickroy
Joseph I. Vickroy, son of Wesley and Margaret Vickroy, was born January 8, 1866, at Newbern, Iowa and died at Indianola, Iowa, December 30, 1944, at the age of 78 years, 11 months, and 22 days. He was united in marriage to Sarah Hickman of Chariton on March 16, 1887, who preceded him in death in 1929. To this union were born eight children, five of whom are living. They are Harry, Joe, Fred and Audra of Indianola, and Horace of Des Moines. One daughter, Louie, and two sons, Carl and Harvey preceded him in death. He spent his life engaged in farming in Lucas and Warren counties. The last few years of his life he made his home with his son, Fred. He is survived by his five sons, nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren; also four brothers, William Vickroy of Mt. Pleasant; Marshal of Chariton; Jasper of Des Moines; and John of Hollywood, California, and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Overman Funeral home in Indianola, conducted by Rev. Garbison of Cool and burial was in the Newbern Cemetery.
