Jasper Mitchell Sargent
(January 20, 1867 – July 11, 1946)

Jasper Mitchell Sargent, son of Cyrus B. and Elizabeth Nelson Sargent, was born near Newbern Jan. 20, 1867. He died at the Burton Nursing home at Indianola July 11, 1946, at the age of 79 years, 5 months and 21 days. He was one of a family of 12 children. His parents, wife, seven brothers and four sisters preceded him in death. A part of his boyhood was spent in Lucas County near Chariton. Following the death of his father early in 1889 he and his mother, one brother and two sisters, moved to Lacona. The next 44 years of his life were lived in or near Lacona. When but a young man he was converted and united with the Methodist church and was a charter member of the Epworth League. Feb. 22, 1905 he was united in marriage to Anna Leone McFarland. To this union one son was born, Gerald E. Sargent of Omaha. He is survived by his son; a nephew, Paul E. Sargent, who was like a son to him; two grandchildren, Robert and Leone Sargent; many other relatives and friends. Relatives from out of town attending the funeral were: Mrs. Daisy Sargent, Chariton; Mr. and Mrs. Carl McNay, Winterset; Mrs. Charles Campbell, Milo; Mrs. Robert Kimzey and daughter, Mrs. Bert Judkins and son, Richard Kimzey, and Mr. and Mrs. Glen Hess and daughter, Marylin, all of Indianola; Mildred Sargent, Dallas; Mrs. Ione Carter, Melcher; Mr. and Mrs. Olin Ferguson and Sam Sinift of Liberty Center.
