Margaret R. Corbett
(January 2, 1842 – March 17, 1923)

Margaret Ross Ayres, was born January 2, 1842, in the state of Indiana, and went to her final rest from her home in Indianola, Iowa, March 17, 1923, at the age of 81 years, 2 months and 15 days. On March 14, 1880, she was married to Henry G. Corbett, who preceded her to the great beyond April 20, 1904. Three children were born to them: Mrs. Jennie Ripper, of Indianola, Iowa, Mrs. Grave Pederson, of Des Moines, Iowa, and Mrs. Ada McClintick of Eugene, Oregon, who, with eight grandchildren, survive her. Since the death of the husband and father, she made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Ripper, in Indianola, spending a few weeks or months at a time with her other daughters. She was the last member of a family of ten children. Mrs. Corbett was an old resident of this community having come to this state with her mother in 1856 and has spent practically all her time since in and near Indianola. After her marriage, she lived about twelve years in the county just north of town, but about twenty-five years ago the family moved back to Indianola to make it their future home. He entire life was given to helping others in sickness or trouble, never taking any thought of herself, but always appreciative of kindness shown her. Early in life Mrs. Corbett united with the Baptist church and lived in that faith until God took her to the Church Triumphant in Heaven. Owing to ill health she has not been able to take any active part in church work for several years. Her children have much to thank her for because of her devotion to their early religious training, and later on for her lessons of patience and endurance during her sickness. The last few months have been a gradual wearing out of the body, not suffering any pain nor loss of any part of body or mind, but waiting patiently for the rest which came to her quietly and without any special warning; but she was ready to go at her Master’s call. Her removal from her home on earth to the Home in Heaven will be mourned by her immediate surviving children and grandchildren and a large host of friends who have known and loved her for many years. Funeral services were held at the home of her son-in-law, Walter Ripper, Monday, March 19, 1923 at four o’clock in the afternoon, conducted by Rev. Frederick Harris, of Indianola. Interment was made in the Indianola Cemetery.
