Jeanette Marie Shetterly
(June 5, 1936 - May 30, 2019)

Jeanette Marie Shetterly of Indianola, passed away at Mercy Hospice in Johnston, on Thursday, May 30, 2019. A celebration of Jeanette's life will be held from 2:00-4:00 PM Wednesday, June 5, 2019, on her 83rd birthday, at Peterson Funeral Home in Carlisle. Interment for Jeanette and her husband Larry will take place immediately following services.
Jeanette was born June 5, 1936 to Dale and Marie Prall. She was one of nine who grew up south of Carlisle in a small house filled with love and a lot of chores. In high school she worked at the malt shop in Carlisle and met Larry Shetterly. They married in June of 1954. Larry and Jeanette lived in Hartford raising 5 kids until they moved to Carlisle in the late 70s to be closer to school events. Ballgames and the sprint car racing circuit kept them busy. They loved to travel all over the United States, with their 3 youngest kids in tow, following their favorite sprint car driver Doug Wolfgang! Jeanette loved her job as Hostess at Bishops Buffet at Southridge Mall in the mid 1980's to early 1990's. That was a very meaningful and memorable time of her life. She spoke so fondly of the many friends she made during that time. Ballgames were almost a constant between watching their kids and then the grandkids. From little league to basketball, college sports to the pros, Jeanette loved them all. In May of 2012, Larry and Jeanette moved to an apartment in Indianola to slow down a bit. Larry passed in September of 2012. Jeanette loved the life in Indianola and became quite the social butterfly. She would jump in her car and go wherever the fun was especially to meet her south side friends. Telling stories of her early childhood and her siblings and parents was so soothing for her as she was ailing at home. In later years she still loved going out for rides but as the passenger so she could just look. Winterset was always a favorite ride and her last request if she made it home from the hospital, as she had hoped.
Jeanette is survived by her children, Jeani(Tom)Smith of Hartford, Terry Shetterly of Carlisle, Joni(Bruce)Hupke of Carlisle, Jim Shetterly of Johnston and Juleen Shetterly of Tucson, Arizona, most recently Indianola, as caregiver to Jeanette; brothers, Ed Prall, Merlin Prall, Marvin Prall, Larry Prall and Ron Prall; grandchildren, Noah(Tricia) Smith, Marah(Brett) Neer, Garrett Shetterly, Drew(Jamie)Hupke, Daniel Hupke and Hattie Hupke, Tyler Shetterly and Jeffrey Shetterly; great grandchildren, Ella and Max Smith, Lindy Neer, Ryker Shetterly, Hanley and Helaina Hupke. Jeanette was preceded in death by her parents, Dale and Marie Prall, Husband Larry, granddaughter Hannah Hupke, brother Duane and sisters, Joan and Betty.
