Fredrick John Palar
(August 17, 1937 - July 9, 2019)

Fred Palar passed away at his home in Carlisle on Tuesday, July 9, 2019. A memorial funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM Friday, July 12, 2019 at Peterson Funeral Home in Carlisle. A visitation will be held at the funeral home from 5:00-7:00PM Thursday, July 11, 2019. Military honors will follow the service at the funeral home.
Fredrick John Palar was born on August 17, 1937 in Charles City, Iowa. Fred attended Cattell School in Des Moines, Warren Harding Junior High and East High School. He enlisted in the United States Air Force with training at Lacklund A.F. Base in San Antonio, Texas. Fred then went on to Mobile, Alabama and Biloxi, Mississippi for training as a radar operator. Fred drove a 1940 Ford to Neah Bay, Washington but was sent on to San Clemente Island, California. He didn't need his car on the island so he rented a garage for $5 a month. From December of 1956 to March of 1958 Fred was in Waverly, Iowa. With his parents and Marcella in Des Moines Fred would drive home most weekends. Fred married Marcella (Springer) on March 1, 1958 after receiving an honorable discharge from the United States Air Force. Fred became employed at Delavan Mfg, John Deere and then took a correspondence course through the National School of Aeronautics in Kansas City, Missouri. He became a fleet service clerk for both Braniff and American Airlines.
Fred was reunited in heaven with his parents, Floyd and Viva Palar; brothers, Floyd Jr., Lloyd and Leo, and a grandson Lucas Palar. He is survived by his wife of over 61 years, Marcella; sons, Chris (Liz) Palar of Ankeny and Hugh (Tracy) Palar of Carlisle; daughters, Renee (Joe) Wertz of Pennsylvania and Dawn (Daniel) Mundil of Cumming; and 10 grandchildren.
