Mary J. Sinnard
(October 14, 1856 – September 3, 1923)

Mrs. Phillip Sinnard
The following announcement of the death of Mrs. Phillip Sinnard was taken from the Ft. Collins, Colo., Courier of Sept. 3, and was omitted from our issue of last week by mistake. Many Indianola people remember Mrs. Sinnard well. She was the mother of W. T. Sinnard of this place and sister of Mrs. Frank Miller of Palmyra Township. Her husband was better known in this county as King Sinnard, and he it was who foresaw the growth of Indianola and laid out the addition which bears his name on East Salem Avenue and inaugurated the building which made that one of the best residence sections of Indianola. Mrs. Mary J. Sinnard, 67 years old, died Monday at 3 o’clock at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Joseph Dykeman, in the Boxelder district. She had been ailing for several years from a complication of ailments due to old age. Mrs. Sinnard was born October 14, 1856. She and her husband came to Colorado about twenty-five years ago. Her husband, Phillip Sinnard, died here some years ago and is buried here. There are left surviving five children as follow: Will sinnard of Indianola, Ia.; Mrs. Etta Graves of Salt Lake city; E. O. Sinnard of Denver; Mrs. Joseph Dykeman and Glen Sinnard of Fort Collins. All of the children will be here to attend the funeral which has been arranged for Thursday afternoon at 2 o’clock from Balmer’s mortuary. Interment will be at Granview beside her husband. Mrs. Sinnard was a member of the Royal Neighbors and the United Brethern Church. [copied from a scrapbook of newspaper clippings from the Warren County Historical Society Library, Indianola, IA]
