Michael Schmid
(September 10, 1853 – September 9, 1923)

Word was received here Sunday that Michael Schmidt [spelled Schmid, as engraved on gravestone] who had been visiting with his daughter in Des Moines, had taken suddenly ill. His son-in-law, Frank Jacobs and sons, William and Joseph, went immediately to Des Moines, but he had passed away before they arrived. His body was brought to Lacona Monday evening and taken to the home of his daughter, Mrs. Frank Jacobs. Funeral will be held at the Rosemont Catholic church. Deceased would have been 70 years old September 10, having died Sept. 9. He leaves five children, Mrs. Anna Brown of Des Moines, Mrs. Josie Ripperger of near Chariton, Mrs. Frank Jacobs of Lacona, and William and Joseph Schmidt of Melcher. Several grandchildren and a host of friends, as he was a pioneer resident of this vicinity.
