Frederick Leander Breckenridge
(May 20, 1869 – June 6, 1923)

Frederick Leander Breckenridge, son of David and Hulda Breckenridge, was born near Marietta, Washington County, Ohio, May 20, 1869, and died at his home in Indianola, Iowa, June 6, 1923, age 54 years 17 days. When a child five years of age his father died. He then lived with his grandmother until 12 years of age, when he went to live with an uncle. His mother died thirteen years ago, May 20th. At the age of 18 he left Ohio and came to Iowa, locating at Tingley, where he remained until 21 years of age when he came to VanWert, Iowa. On April 17, 1892, he was married to Miss Sarah Belle Fuller, of VanWert, Iowa, who, with their four daughters and two grandchildren survive him. The children are: Mrs. Vena Howard, Mrs. Reva Hommer, Mrs. Alma Stewart and Mrs. Amy Curtis. These all have looked to him for advice and needed assistance and will all recall his deeds of kindness when they think of his service to them. He has made his home in Iowa since early manhood, living at VanWert a number of years after his marriage. Leaving that place in 1906, the family moved to Indianola where they have since resided. Shortly after going to VanWert he united with the Christian Church. In later years he transferred his membership to the First Baptist Church at this place, where he has been an earnest worker. He trusted in his Lord and trusted him fully. During his recent illness he bore his suffering faithfully and many times expressed himself as ready to meet his Master. He was a member of the I.O.O.F. lodge and the Woodmen of the World. He has left all, family, lodge, and church. He has finished his work on earth. His record is an open book. It is his faith, his life of the Christ, his services rendered in the Master’s name that will confront him when he stands before the Judge of all the earth and hears the welcome plaudit, “Well done, thou good and faithful servant, enter thou, into the joy of thy Lord.” Funeral services were held Friday, June 8th, at 2:00 o’clock conducted by Rev. J. O. White, pastor.
