Carrie O. Sones
(November 2, 1881 – July 29, 1938)

Obituary – Mrs. G. S. Sones
Carrie O. Threlkeld, daughter of Stephen and Amanda Threlkeld, was born near Liberty Center, Ia., on Nov. 2, 1881, and departed this life on July 29, 1938, at the age of 56 years, 8 months and 27 days, after an illness of several months. On Jan. 21, 1903, she was united in marriage to Sherman G. Sones, and with the exception of one year when the family lived in Wyoming, her entire life had been spent in Warren County. To this union were born seven children. One daughter, Effa Helen, died in infancy. In early girlhood she was converted and united with the Church of Christ at Liberty Center. Her life was one of helpfulness and self denial, ever thinking of others. Of no one can it be more truly said that her friends were numbered by her acquaintances, for to know her was to love her. During her last illness, which was marked with intense suffering, she had that same kindly smile and cheerful word of greeting that so endeared her to her relatives and many friends.
Those left to mourn her passing are her husband, two daughters, Mrs. Wanda Alexander of Milo and Mrs. Alice McCarty of North Platte, Neb., four sons, Wayne, of Carlisle, Gerald of Indianola, and George and Keith at home; nine grandchildren, Marilyn, LaVerne and Robert Alexander, Barbara, Delorus and Velma McCarty, and Jean Ann, Betty and Gerald Sones; her mother, Mrs. Stephen Threlkeld of Chariton; five brothers, Charles of Bellingham, Wash., Warren of Oceanside, Calif., Ross of Maxwell, Ia., Carl of Springfield, Mo., Albert of Phoenix, Ariz.; five sisters, Mrs. Ida Vincent of Lacona, Mrs. Alice Williamson, and Mrs. Lula Evans of Chariton, Mrs. Blanche Parrott and Miss Inez Threlkeld of Grinnell, Ia., and a number of other relatives. The funeral was held at the Liberty Center M. E. church, Sunday, July 31, 1938, at 2:00 p.m. conducted by the Rev. Reed Kessler and the Rev. N. D. Gordon of Indianola. Interment was in the Liberty Center cemetery.
Card of Thanks – We wish to express our appreciation for the kindness and sympathy of our friends and neighbors, and for the beautiful flowers at the time of the death of our beloved wife and mother. – Sherman Sones and Children [copied from newspaper clippings in a scrapbook at Warren County Historical Society Library, Indianola, IA]
