Mrs. J. L. Goode Buried at Lacona
Nancy Elizabeth, daughter of Effie and C. L. V. Shupe, was born at Lacona, Iowa, Jan. 2, 1892, and died at her home near Lacona Sept. 28, 1938, aged 46 years, 8 months and 26 days. She was united in marriage with Lester Goode Feb. 28, 1912, and to this union three sons were born, Merle, Max and Maynard, who with their father, mourn the loss of a loving companion and the tender love and care of a devoted mother. On Feb. 24 at Lacona she took Christ as her personal Saviour and was buried with her Lord and Saviour in Christian baptism under the pastorate of Rev. Yenos, uniting with the Christian church at Lacona. She lived an exemplary Christian life, always doing cheerfully what her hands found to do, for the betterment of the church and community. Mrs. Goode had spent her entire life in and near Lacona, except for a short time in 1907, when she with her parents resided in Scotts Bluff, Nebr. She also lived a short time in Indianola.
Besides her family, she is survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. L V. Shupe; two brothers, Ray R. and Sam, both of Indianola; three sisters, Mrs. Dulcie Bachtelle of Arlington, Mrs. Lillie Brewster of Adel, and Beatrice Shupe of Lacona. She was a most devoted teacher of the primary class at the Christian church until forced to give up by her failing health. Her loving parents have lost a faithful daughter, the community a loyal neighbor, but heaven has gained a soul. The remains were laid to rest in the Cochran cemetery.
