Mrs. D. L. Puderbaugh
Elzina Nine, daughter of Henry and Catherine Nine was born Jan. 18, 1866, near Norwood, Lucas County, and departed this life April 3, 1935, at her home near Lacona. On October 2, 1887, she was united in marriage to D. L. Puderbaugh. To this union were born eight children, two having preceded her in death, Elgy Veta who died in infancy, and Harley Hampton, on June 8, 1934. Those who survive her are: Gertie E. Higdon of Indianola, Jennie Sandy and Homer Puderbaugh of Liberty Center and Fern McFarland, Orie E. Puderbaugh and Ardys C. Butler of Lacona.
When only 18 years old she was converted at a revival meeting held by the Rev. John Reed in the Haden schoolhouse. She united with the United Brethren church near Norwood and in 1912 when she was baptized by the Rev. Mark Fitzgerald, transferring her membership to the Otter Creek Christian church near Liberty Center.
Most of her life was spent in and around Lacona. She spent a busy life of usefulness, always helpful in times of sickness and distress. Her greatest interest was her home and children. In her later years her grandchildren have absorbed her interest. Her sickness was borne with great patience and she appreciated the care bestowed upon her. She was a good wife and mother. She leaves to mourn her passing her husband, D. L. Puderbaugh; her six children, as previously named; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Iva Puderbaugh, of Chariton; one sister, Mrs. Effie Roe, of Norwood, and four brothers, David L. Nine of Chariton, J. C. Nine of New Virginia, and H. C. Nine and Daniel L. Nine of Norwood; six grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends. The funeral was held Friday afternoon, April 5, conducted by the Rev. Reed Kessler, Medora, and the Rev. N. D. Gordon, Indianola, at the Christian Neck church. Music was furnished by a male quartet. Interment was in the cemetery at Liberty Center.
