Donald Hugh Sanford
(April 4, 1952 - February 5, 2020)

Donald Hugh Sanford (Donny) 67, passed away on February 5, 2020 at Broadlawns Medical Center in Des Moines. Donald was born April 4, 1952 to Halford Lee and Mary Angeline (Speck) Sanford at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa.
Donny loved his wife Jerrine of 24 years together, along with his family and grandkids. He liked John Wayne movies, Bob Hope classics, old westerns, nascar racing, car magazines, listening to music, working on anything mechanical, riding his mower, classic cars and trucks, and spending time with Jerrine.
Donny worked for Southeast Polk Community Schools for 13 years as a custodian and ground maintenance worker. He retired from SEP in July 2009 due to health reasons. He worked with his friend and father in law Burt Hunt (deceased). They liked riding around in the little blue Chevy truck and drinking coffee together.
Donny is survived by his wife Jerrine Esther (Hunt) Sanford, mother in law Myrna J. Hunt of Runnells; 3 brothers, Roger Karnes, Dan(Wilma Jean)Sanford, Darrell Sanford of Des Moines; 2 daughters, Cierra Jerrine Hunt (Corey Walker) of Altoona and Lacy Ann Sanford (Jason Cox) of Des Moines; sharing seven grandchildren, Keaton Alan and Cienna Pearl Walker, Trenton Noah, RJ Heimbaugh and Havanna and Dayton Cox; niece, Jennifer Sanford(Kevin Johnson) of Cumming; 2 nephews, Daniel(Amy Faller) Alyssa, Jesse Sanford of Cedar Rapids, Matt (Jessia Beyer) Sydnie, Skyler Sanford of Des Moines; son by marriage, Brian(Samantha, Syndie) Halterman of Des Moines as well as many other family members.
Donny was preceded in death by his parents Halford and Mary Sanford, brother, Halford Lee Sanford Jr., sister, Sheila Renae Sanford, sister in law Deb Sanford, granddaughter Kerissa Heimbaugh, along with other family members.
We will have a Celebration of Life Event to celebrate his life on April 4, 2020 at the Runnells Christian Church, 309 Brown St. Runnells, Iowa 50237 from 11:00 am-3:00 pm. Family and friends are welcomed to attend with a balloon release to follow.
