(January 23, 1928 - February 12, 2020)

Thelma Ruth Freel, passed away Wednesday, February 12, 2020 at Glen Oaks Nursing in Urbandale, Iowa at the age of 92. Funeral services for Thelma will be held at 10:30 am on Monday, February 17, 2020 at Rising Sun Church of Christ in Pleasant Hill. A visitation will be held on Sunday, February 16, 2020 from 4-6:00 pm at Peterson Funeral Home in Carlisle. Burial will follow funeral services in Lowman Cemetery in Runnells.
Thelma was born January 23, 1928 in Prairie City, Iowa to William and Lona (Ghent) Thomas. She grew up in Runnells, Iowa and graduated high school there. Thelma married Charles Freel on May 14, 1946. They were married for 60 years until his passing. They moved to Carlisle, Iowa where they raised their 3 children, Ted, Shelley and Randy. Thelma was a very athletic lady. She loved basketball, golf, gymnastics and water sports. She enjoyed painting and music.
Thelma is survived by her children, Ted(Susan)Freel, Shelley(David)Huffaker, and Randall(Gayle)Freel; grandchildren, Heather Vlasek, Todd Huffaker, Ken Vesey, Abby Freel, Katherine Freel; and great grandchildren, Sydney Ulch, Brody Ulch, Sam Huffaker, Greta Huffaker, Cole Vesey and Jack MacDuff.
Thelma was preceded in death by her parents William and Lona, her husband Charles; brothers, Howard, Ed, Dale, Dick and half-brother Bailey Thomas.
Memorials for Thelma may be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association or Rising Sun Church of Christ.
