Michael (Mike) Lee Mealey was born June 12, 1950 in Des Moines, Iowa to Calvin and Joan (Kile) Mealey. Mike attended school in Des Moines and graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School in 1968. Mike went on to pursue a career as an electrician, like his father, and was a proud member of the I.B.E.W. Local 347. Mike worked for several electrical contractors throughout his career and also pursued other ventures outside of his electrical work. Later he moved to Indianola to a farm where he had horses, cattle and loved being outdoors. Mike was an avid hunter and enjoyed many different hunting trips including trips to Africa, Canada, Alaska, and Colorado. He was a member of the Iowa Bow Hunters Association. He also enjoyed fishing trips in Canada and Minnesota. Mike also belonged to the IRCA and as a calf roper, he enjoyed traveling to and participating in hundreds of rodeos. Mike loved his Harley-Davidson motorcycles and attending the Sturgis motorcycle rally with his friends was often the highlight of many summers.
Mike will be remembered by his family, friends, and coworkers for his positive outlook on life and his great sense of humor. He was a captivating storyteller and he had a keen sense for remembering dates and times from events years ago. His practical jokes were second to none and Mike was always the one to make everyone laugh and keep them on their toes. According to his family and friends, Mike’s smile was simply the best! Mike never did anything half way, giving 110% to everything he did. Mike also had an impeccable sense of style, always dressing to the nines. Mike never knew a stranger.
Mike is preceded in death by his parents, Calvin and Joan Mealey, his mother and father in law Bob and Millie Coffey, and brother in law, Steven Coffey. Mike is survived by his wife Beth Mealey and his three children Michael Todd (Lee Anne) Mealey, Mindie (Curtis) Dumas, and Madison Mealey, and his grandchildren Sami Mealey and Alex and Kyla Dumas. He is also survived by his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Pat and Lynn McConnell and sister-in-law, Beth King Coffey.
