Kenny Lane Halderman
(May 12, 1958 - February 28, 2020)

Kenny Lane Halderman entered into the kingdom of heaven on Friday, February 28, 2020, sharing his day of passing with his bonus god-son, Nathan Adam Rainforth, from 23 years earlier. Memorial services will be held 2 p.m., Friday, March 6, 2020 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.
He was born May 12, 1958 as the first of three sons to Jack Barrett and Barbara Ann Gibbs Halderman in Yuma, Colorado. With his father working Colorado construction, Kenny’s earliest years were spent all over Colorado with a home base for the family in Kit Carson, Colorado where much of his family still resides.
Kenny grew up later in the Lakewood area with his brothers, JC and Jeff, and graduated from Lakewood High School in 1976. From there he attended DeVry Institute in Arizona, graduating with an Electronic Technician Certificate in 1978. Kenny spent a couple of years working and living in the southern California area before returning home to Colorado. He began his Colorado homecoming working at Melco Industries as an Electronic Tech repairing commercial embroidery/sewing machines. It was while working at Melco that he was introduced on a blind date and married the love of his life, Kathleen Graham of the Clarinda, Iowa and then Loveland, Colorado area on December 31, 1992. To this union was born one son, Benjamin Lane Halderman, who both survive him in death. Additionally, Kenny was blessed with three bonus children when he married Kathy – Meagan (Josh) Poe of Sidney, Iowa; Derek (Kellie) Norton of Wellington, Colorado and September Jeanne Dale of Waukee, Iowa. Together the children, later grandchildren completed Kenny’s family.
In 2004, Kenny, Kathy and Ben relocated to Iowa with Kathy’s job as an HR Director at Diamond Animal Health. Kenny worked various electronics tech jobs until stopping to care for Kathy and her disability from scoliosis and scleroderma in 2010.
In the past few years, Kenny has suffered from severe medical maladies many resulting from his younger days and battles with alcohol and drug addictions. Most recently he was hospitalized in Colorado and Iowa for 7 weeks as the result of an incident stemming from the effects of these conditions. It was during his hospital recovery that Kenny was baptized into the hands of our Lord and Savior on June 23, 2018 at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Lakewood, Colorado. Upon his release from the hospital in July of 2018, he knew that he was probably living on borrowed time.
Preceding Kenny in his death were his parents, Jack and Barb Halderman of Lakewood, Colorado and his father-in-law, Richard Kellogg Graham of Clarinda, Iowa. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Kathy Graham Halderman, of Indianola, Iowa; his children and bonus children – Ben Halderman of Indianola, Iowa; Meagan (Josh) Poe of Farragut, Iowa; Derek (Kellie) Norton of Wellington, Colorado and September Jeanne Dale of Waukee, Iowa. Grandchildren include Kaleb, Trystan, Josie and baby-to-be-born in August, Poe of Farragut, Iowa; Danilynn, Findley, and baby-to-be-born in April, Norton of Wellington, Colorado; and Isaiah, Austin and Henry Dale/Keever of Waukee, Iowa. Brothers, JC and Jeff Halderman and niece, Kaley Halderman of Lakewood/Denver, Colorado area also survive Kenny.
Area children who referred to him as Papa “K” include Damian Dale, James Crawford, Jaylyn Dale, Sierra Dale, Alayna Dale, Tommy Sharrer, Keaton McGrew, Brynlynn McGrew and Addilyn McGrew. Special friends of Kenny were Mike and Jenna Dale, Julie Maier, Ed and Maggie Smith, Roy and Gwen Carr. Various other in-laws, uncles, aunts, cousins and many friends are in the list to mourn his loss.
Kenny had a unique sense of humor and was a blatantly honest soul. He will be greatly missed by his loving family and friends. May God grant comfort and peace to those who mourn his passing.
Memorials can be sent to the family at 1004 N O Street, Indianola, IA 50125, and will be divided amongst various charitable organizations.
