Services for Carol Booth, 94, of Indianola, who passed away Thursday, February 13, 2020 at The Village in Indianola, will be held 1:30 p.m., Monday, February 24, at the First United Methodist Church.
Carol Janet Booth was born the daughter of D. Willard and Dorothea Zahn on September 1, 1925 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She attended Olney High School and Temple University, graduating with a Degree in Early Childhood and Elementary Education.
She married EG Booth, Jr. in July of 1949. Carol was employed by Temple University, The Harley School, YMCA Camp Sloane, Grinnell Public Schools, and Indianola Public Schools. In Indianola, she taught several elementary grades in Whittier, Hawthorne, and Irving Schools. She trained as a prescriptive teacher in 1971 and was one of two teachers providing those services in that decade. She retired in 1989.
Carol was a member of PEO, Alpha Sigma Alpha sorority, and several other service organizations. She was an active member of the Indianola First United Methodist Church and participated in vocal and bell choirs; she also taught Sunday School and helped keep choir and church membership records as a volunteer.
Carol moved to The Village retirement community in Indianola with her husband in 1999 and was active there on various committees. She also played the piano in the dining room for special occasions and directed the chimes music group for several years.
She also volunteered for various charities, including coordinating the American Cancer Society’s Daffodil Drive for Warren County.
Those left to cherish her memory include her brother Richard Zahn, and children David (Deborah) Booth, Steven Booth, Barbara (Bill) Hannum, and Joan Peters. Grandchildren include Shannon (Kirk) Glass, Josh Hannum, Conor Hannum, Andrew Peters, and Ellen (Taylor) Milleson. Great grandchildren are Alex, Jackson, Jacob, Noah, and Cassidy Free, and Zeke Milleson. She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, EG Booth and by her son-in-law Brian Peters.
Carol loved writing poetry and prose, playing piano, and visiting with family and friends.
Visitation will be held 1 to 4 p.m., Sunday, February 23, at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola with family present to greet friends.
