Obituary – Thomas Edward New
Thomas Edward, eldest son of W. E. and Lucy New, was born in Warren County, April 18, 1873, and passed away at the Brown Nursing Home in Des Moines, July 30, 1941, at the age of 68 years, 3 months and 12 days. Ed, as he was always called, lived all of his life in Warren County with the exception of a few years spent in Kansas and Nebraska. He was a carpenter by trade and was always willing to please everyone. He leaves to mourn his passing his aged mother, who has tenderly cared for him all through his illness with the exception of the time spent in the nursing home; also three sisters; Anna R. King and Kate L. Mock of Indianola and Lydia J. Shaver of Lacona and a brother, William Ralph New, of Indianola. He was preceded in death by his father, one sister and [part of paper cut out ] brothers. Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at 1 o’clock at the [paper cut out] Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. D. Sampson Cocks, of the First Presbyterian church. Interment was in the Indian Valley Cemetery.
