Death Claims Mrs. Mary Kirkpatrick
Mary Christine Cratty, daughter of Harvey and Eliza Cratty was born in Marion County, Iowa, Sept. 28, 1877 and departed this life Aug. 11, 1941 at the age of 63 years, 10 months and 14 days. Her entire girlhood was spent in Marion County. At the age of 19 years, she was converted and baptized at the Christian church in Belinda, later changing her membership to the Nazarene church, Lacona.
On April 19, 1900, she was united in marriage to Louis C. Victor of Newbern. To this union two daughters were born. After just a short time of married life he passed away on Dec. 30, 1901. She then made her home with her father at Newbern, until his death, after which, with her two little girls, she moved to Lacona. On March 10, 1908, she was united in marriage to John E. Sargent of Lacona, Iowa. He preceded her in death, May 26, 1935. After his death, she did practical nursing for the next five years, making her home with her daughter, Mrs. Ruth Rodgers, when at home.
On Feb. 28, 1940, she was united in marriage to Willard A. Kirkpatrick of Millerton. They made their home at his farm near Millerton for ten months, after which they moved to her farm southwest of Lacona where she suddenly took sick July 4th and for five weeks all the care that loving hands could give her was administered. She leaves to mourn her loss, her husband, Willard Kirkpatrick, her daughters, Mrs. Ruth Rodgers, Lacona, Iowa, Mrs. Edna Mae Holland of Middleton, Mo., three grandchildren, Richard, Charlotte, and Glenn Edward Holland, two brothers, George and James Cratty, and one sister, Mrs. Edna Rodgers, all of Lacona, besides several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
Through all pain at times she’d smile, a smile of heavenly birth; and when the angels called her home, she smiled farewell to earth. Heaven retaineth now our treasure. Earth the lonely casket keeps, and the sun beams long to linger where our sainted mother sleeps.
