(February 9, 1929 - March 18, 2019)

June Carmen Fritz, 90, passed away Monday, March 18, 2019 at The Village in Indianola, IA. Services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, March 23 at the Indianola First United Methodist Church. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church. The burial will follow in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Menlo, IA
June was born February 9, 1929 in Osceola, WI to Locy and Madelyn (Fennimore) Stewart. Her father was Superintendent of the Wisconsin Fish Hatcheries in Osceola and also in Spooner, and they lived at the hatcheries. She attended Spooner High School for three years then transferred to Osceola High School, graduating in 1947. June attended Superior State College in Superior, WI (now the University of Wisconsin-Superior) graduating in 1951 with a B.S. in primary education. She taught in Manitowoc and Shorewood, WI schools for 10 years.
June met Veryl in Milwaukee and they were married July 2, 1960 in Osceola. They had four children, Alan, Carol, Charles and Andrea. They then moved around the Midwest for Veryl’s work and settled in Indianola in 1976 on an acreage East of town, where they raised Suffolk sheep and a collection of farm cats. June loved dogs and kept a pet dog for many years.
June worked for 20 years as a nurse’s assistant; first at the Good Samaritan Home in Indianola and then at the Veteran’s Administration Hospital in Des Moines. She was a member of the United Methodist Women’s circle and enjoyed attending the Des Moines Opera Guild events and activities. June and Veryl have been members of the Indianola First United Methodist Church for 42 years. They retired to The Village in 2017, where they had an apartment.
June will be remembered for her cheerful attitude and ready smile.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Locy and Madelyn Stewart; brother, Vahl Stewart and wife Virginia; sister, Ardis Baker and husband Gordon.
June is survived by her husband of 58 years, Veryl; children, Alan Fritz of Indianola, Carol (Doug) Struss of Cedar Rapids, Charles (Shelley) Fritz of Clive, and Andrea (John) Weaver of Mason, MI; grandsons, Eric, Nick and Ben Struss; granddaughters, Carmen, Madeline and Anna Fritz; Zandra who is living with Andrea and John and several nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be given to The Good Shepherd Endowment Fund at The Village or the Indianola First United Methodist Church.
