Priscilla L. Johnson
(March 1, 1859 – July 25, 1936)

Indianola, Iowa, Wednesday, Aug 5, 1936
Priscilla Lestie, daughter of Samuel and Lydia Lestie, was born on March 1, 1859, at Winchester, Ind., and passed away at her home in Cool, Iowa, July 25, 1936, at the age of 77 years, 4 months, and 24 days. She was united in marriage to Orville C. Johnson on December 22, 1880, at Muncie, Ind. To this union were born two daughters, Bessie Johnson of Albany, Ore., and Aimee Johnson Butler, who preceded her mother in death July 2, 1939; and three sons, Will of Newton, and Carl and Edgar of Cool.
There remains besides the four living children two sisters, Mrs. Mary E. Lewis of Indianapolis, Ind., and Mrs. Rose Miller of Albany, Ore.; also eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren, and a host of relatives and friends who mourn the passing of one who knew how to be a friend. She became a member of the Christian Church at Muncie, Ind. In early girlhood and transferred her membership to the Christian Church at Cool, Iowa.
Mrs. Johnson was a woman whose ways were ways of pleasantness and her paths were paths of peace. A most devoted wife and mother, her home was always a Mecca to her grown children, who came back to it as to a sanctuary.
Every relative, every neighbor know that in Priscilla Johnson one could always find a ready sympathy and understanding, kindness, loyal friendship and help as far as she could give it. Her loyalty to her friends and the betterment of her community was a vital part of her religion – she lived it. In Proverbs 31 are words that might well have been written of our friend, “She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and her tongue is the law of kindness. She looketh well to the ways of her household; and eateth not the bread of idleness. Her children arise up and call her blessed. Her husband also, and he praiseth her. Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all.”
Funeral services were held at the Cool Church Monday afternoon, July 27, at 3:30 o’clock, conducted by the Rev. N. D. Gordon of Indianola. Burial was in the Indianola
