Obituary for Mrs. Jacqueline Marie Smith
Jacqueline Marie Smith passed away Friday, December 8, 2017, at Mercy Hospital. She was 90.
Jackie was born September 22, 1927 in Mount Clemens, Michigan, to Francis McGinnis Folck and Howard Folck.
She met the love of her life, Gene W. Smith, in Fairbanks, Alaska, where they married February 16, 1957. He preceded her in death in August of 2001.
Jackie is survived by three daughters, Lorna Smith-Streeter, Holly Kuhn and Heather (Wayne) Tucker, and two grandchildren, Scott Kuhn and Kerry (Lindsey) Kuhn.
In addition to her husband, Jackie was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Jean Findlow, her brother Sunny, and her son-in-law Danny Streeter.
Jackie loved nothing more than her family. She enjoyed being visited by her many nieces and nephews. She was an avid gardener and volunteered at the Greater Des Moines Botanical Garden. Jackie was known as a great cook and was famous for her Christmas cookies – especially the old fashioned sugar cookies – a recipe few have been able to duplicate. She volunteered with her church, Community United Presbyterian, for many years. She was also a member of Pandora Club.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 12, 2017, 4-7 p.m. at Peterson Funeral Home in Carlisle. Memorial donations will be directed to the Dollars for Scholars program benefiting graduates of Carlisle High School.
